چکیده

A method for the establishment and maintenance of a colony of mice free of Theiler's (TO) virus has been described. This colony has been maintained since 1947 with but one instance of contamination in 1948. Studies on the susceptibility of these mice to TO virus show that smaller doses are required to establish an infection of the intestinal tract than of the CNS. A mutant strain of TO(B) virus has been isolated which, following oral administration to mice free of TO virus, is able to cause infection of the CNS with paralysis. When fed to stock mice that carry TO virus, this TO(B) strain does not cause paralysis or other signs of CNS infection.

Bone marrow chimeras reveal non-H-2 hematopoietic control of susceptibility to Theiler's virus persistent infection.

The DA strain of Theiler's murine encephalomyelitis virus persists in the white matter of the spinal cords of susceptible mice. Previous results showed that the difference in susceptibility to viral persistence between the susceptible SJL/J strain and the resistant B10.S strain was due to multiple non-H-2 loci. The respective roles of hematopoietic and nonhematopoietic cells in this difference ...

Theiler's virus infection of 129Sv mice that lack the interferon alpha/beta or interferon gamma receptors

The Daniels strain of Theiler's virus causes a persistent infection of the white matter of spinal cord of susceptible mice, with chronic inflammation and primary demyelination. Inbred 129Sv mice are resistant to this infection; they present with mild encephalomyelitis and clear the infection within a matter of days. A very different outcome was observed with inbred 129Sv mice whose receptors fo...

A Study on the Ocular Infection with Rabies Virus in Mouse

Introduction: The most common mode of rabies virus transmission is through a bite wound or contact of broken skin with saliva of a rabid animal. Various other routes of virus transmission include exposure of mucous membranes (i.e. eyes, nose, and mouth) to infected saliva of a rabid animal, aerosol transmission, and corneal transplantation. Laboratory workers during work with rabies virus and v...

The neurovirulent GDVII strain of Theiler's virus can replicate in glial cells.

The distribution, spread, neuropathology, tropism, and persistence of the neurovirulent GDVII strain of Theiler's virus in the central nervous system (CNS) was investigated in mice susceptible and resistant to chronic demyelinating infection with TO strains. Following intracerebral inoculation, the virus spread rapidly to specific areas of the CNS. There were, however, specific structures in wh...

Susceptibility of three Eco-races of tropical Tasar silkworm to Antheraea mylitta cytoplasmic polyhedrosis virus (AmCPV)

Pathogenic infection in tasar silkworm, Antheraea mylitta Drury. is common and there is a breed specific response regarding tolerance. Observations reveal the possibility of differential response by haemocytes to microbial infection in different breeds. Hence, the susceptibility of three eco-races of tasar silkworm viz. Daba, Sarihan and Raily to Antheraea mylitta Cytoplasmic Polyhedrosis Virus...
